..."Si ateniéndonos a una historiografía cronológica de las técnicas de animación cinematográfica de objetos inertes fotograma a fotograma que llamamos stop-motion, podríamos decir que Ladislas Starewicz es uno de sus descubridores y pioneros, en cuanto a haber sabido utilizarlo no ya sólo de una manera enteramente narrativa, sino de elevarlo hasta una categoría artística y poética irrefutable, nos encontramos de justicia ante el primero, el padre. Emile Cohl ya estaba antes, y sus investigaciones en el campo de la animación frame a frame fueron decisivas, como todavía constatan los cortos que de él se conservan. Lo mismo podríamos decir de los objetos animados en escenarios reales de Georges Méliès o nuestro propio pionero, Segundo de Mochón. Pero son las historias de Starewicz las que aún hoy, a pesar del paso de las décadas, continúan resultando sorprendentes, estimulantemente imaginativas y muy emocionantes por su complejidad. Su talento creador destaca en especial por el amor al detalle, las conseguidas ambientaciones y la expresividad de sus personajes, que nos hacen olvidar a cada instante que no son seres vivos, parece imposible que no lo sean. Por medio de sus marionetas, el artista disecciona el comportamiento humano con un cinismo propio de un Anton Chejov, incluso cuando sus muñecos suelen ser figuras de animales, como en el lenguaje de las fábulas. Starewich supo divertir, hacer soñar, hacer pensar, y además dotarlo todo de un altísimo valor plástico, fotográfico y escénico, gracias a la calidad y originalidad de sus muñecos, y a lo medido e inspirado de sus puestas en escena"...
